I have the real key to begin with. Yet somehow my history now shows as black, and the key doesn’t function when entered. When purchasing a replacement, Microsoft claims it’s genuine. Are there any steps I should take or should I keep using Linux until Windows 10 arrives?

It might be worth giving it a shot. You're likely triggered it several times before needing to activate it again.

They will handle the activation without needing you to speak to a human, at least as it functions for me. The link should appear similar to this: http://www.kodyaz.com/images/articles/wi...states.PNG

Absolutely, I also rely on this regularly. Simply dial the number provided when attempting activation and follow the instructions—everything should work fine.

The message doesn't match what you expect. When you try to check, it shows as valid, but the call indicates otherwise.

You may need to open a support ticket on the Microsoft Forum. Otherwise I'm uncertain.

You'll likely install Linux, but some of your games won't run properly. You'd save money by avoiding another expensive purchase.
