I was playing a game when I switched out of the full screen window using alt+tabbed to check for Win+G. When I returned and pressed W to move forward, the game minimized and the Windows 11 sidebar appeared. I repeated this several times consistently. Then I began typing random keys on the keyboard—like pressing 1 to open Edge, 2 to open Firefox, and f to launch feedback hub. What was happening? Restarting stopped it from occurring again, but it still happened unexpectedly before. My drivers seem fine, sticky keys are off, and nothing else appears to be wrong.

Pressing the Windows key followed by numbers brings up or moves apps on the taskbar to the top in their designated spots. It seems the key is often used this way.

Revisiting this, it seems different from what I've encountered before. I've noticed in the past that certain key presses remain active even after being released. It's as if a button stays pressed unintentionally. Repeating the key action often clears the issue. In this case, pressing the Windows key twice—first to open the start menu and then again to clear it—might help resolve it. I'm still puzzled about how it happened initially.

Alongside your idea about a button being pressed, I've shared a post about a mouse I use for that. In a shooter game, my left and right buttons stay pressed, letting me enjoy my clips until I hit them again. It's really annoying and happens on both my desktop and laptop, regardless of whether they're Windows 11.

It seems there might be an issue with the system, though I'm unsure of the exact cause. When I encountered it before, I didn't know what to do. I would likely begin by verifying or updating USB drivers, as they are often bundled with chipset packages now rather than being sold separately.

You may notice Sticky Keys appearing on your keyboard. This behavior isn't typical for mice, suggesting a shared utility might be running on both devices.

I've repeated this many times without success. Whenever someone recommends updates or drivers, it usually doesn't relate to the problem. Thanks for your effort. In my previous message I mentioned sticky keys were disabled. I previously had Kensington Works on my laptop but not my desktop. The issue with the mouse appears on both machines, while the keyboard problem only occurred on the desktop. The only keyboard setup I have is Corsair iCue for lighting effects.
