Find details about the NAT type in CoD MW2.
Hello everyone, I'm attempting to run MW2 on my PC. My friend managed to play a few games, but I'm not quite there yet. My setup is fairly advanced—UPnP is on, all MW2 and Steam ports are forwarded, PC uses a static IP, firewall is off in Windows 10, antivirus removed, router reset, game files verified and fully uninstalled. My hardware specs are solid (8700k, 16GB RAM, 1070 MHz), and I have a Gigabit fiber connection with a Nighthawk X6 router. The game was purchased legit on Steam, and I previously played it successfully. If anyone has alternative tips or solutions, please share them.
NAT type mainly influences your odds of being the lobby host and locating lobbies easily. The game isn’t as popular on PC these days, especially since I’ve spent over 1,000 hours in it. Your region plays a big role. Also, owning just one DLC means you won’t find any games at all—either you have everything or nothing.
I received an update, changed the NAT filtering to Open on my router and applied the settings. After restarting MW2, I still saw a strict NAT type. I checked the diable SIP ALG box and re-applied it, but the issue persisted. To confirm it was the router causing the problem, I used my HTPC to go around it, downloaded MW2 there, and ran it successfully with Open NAT enabled.
Additionally, my HTPC now hardwired through the router is also experiencing strict NAT, making it unlikely to be my PC and definitely tied to the router.
I'm testing various firmware to check for improvements, I believe the router is fine and I haven't discovered any problematic settings affecting NAT. Now I'm installing Tomato.
My perspective is clear. In MW2 matchmaking, having just one DLC can group you with others who have identical settings—unless you join a party without DLC. I wanted to highlight that detail.
OP should remove the DLC. Likely it’s available on Steam or another platform where it can be uninstalled easily.
