Not used to this before, but someone else might have more details. The page mentions the driver "ath10k" has been part of the Linux kernel since 2016. For Ubuntu 20.10 running kernel 5.8, it should be installed by default. Some distros might omit it or exclude it for stability reasons. I’d test newer Ubuntu versions or alternatives like Mint or PopOS. Most modern systems load drivers as modules rather than embedded code, so checking for "ath10k" in /lib/modules is a good start. You can also view loaded modules with "sudo lsmod" and enable it via "sudo modprobe".

". . . laptop on a Linux distribution"? Refer to the discussion here: https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php?topic=7871.0 If peppermint isn't compatible, lubuntu won't work either. Definitely won't run Wine to anyone's content if that's the goal.

It generally performs well across the majority of operating systems. I'm just working to determine the optimal choice.

1.9 GHz processor with 2GB memory? Check out the Bodhi antiX. Both models need less RAM for smooth operation. "Only a few highly demanding 3D titles work well on these cards." Good luck!
