I purchased a laptop for my wife about two years ago, and recently it stopped charging. The cord works with my phone, but the USB-C port isn’t functioning properly. I’ve checked the cord and it’s fine, yet I can’t locate any replacement parts. It seems either I’m not searching effectively or the issue is tricky to fix. I’m hoping for some guidance here! This model is a Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Laptop, Reg Model P147G, with the serial CRW1NG3. I understand USB-C ports can be problematic, but I want to avoid costly repairs if I can fix it myself.

I've begun attempting to eliminate it, hehe. Used to desktop towers, now compact ones are a challenge, I'm picking it up!

Consider capturing an image of the connector's rear side. This will help determine if it's an SMD or through-hole design and reveal the pin count.

I hope not since I’m not sure what it means.

I considered how compact the component was and how it fits together. The laptop model is an Inspiron 7000 2 in 1, which likely helped you identify the right part. What steps would you need to take on your own?

Real experience matters, but if you're new to this, you might damage your setup.

I wonder if a regular heatgun could function with some aluminum foil covering the USB port you don’t want to warm. The heatgun I bought for repairing my phone is unused, and since it doesn’t seem to need heating the LCD, I might just need a different tool for reflowing a GTS 250. For other components like VRMs or rear I/O ports that require strong heat, I’d also consider getting a temperature gun.
