Hey everyone, should've checked first before purchasing. My HP envy laptop had a DVD drive that stopped working—it was from 2013. The only cheapest one I saw on eBay was a 2012 model, and most of the other listings looked pretty similar. So, are there any real concerns about compatibility? For around $8 I thought it was a good deal, but it might feel heavy if it doesn’t work. Still, I could probably use a USB to SATA adapter if it’s functional, right? Version I bought:

As long as it fits physically, there shouldn't be any problems. The matching model number increases the chances. It will definitely use a standard SATA connection and built-in drivers, making software compatibility unnecessary.

HP's repairability has kept me loyal for a long time. The close spacing of threads and screws, along with the availability of replacement parts and part numbers, makes it easy to fix things.
