Occasionally, it functions when positioned between slots or atop the sole slot. This doesn’t fully obstruct your slots, as certain models include slots on the rear. It might still work.

It seems a riser cable from the motherboard back side is simpler to handle because those M.E slots typically lack heatsinks. Do you own any of these motherboards to connect? Just to clarify, it’s essentially the only part holding me back from getting a micro ATX instead. A mini ITX setup would be much more practical for my space.

Yes, those mobos are commonly used for eGPU setups on budget laptops with Wi-Fi M.2 slots.
