Find a compatible CPU for your GTX 1070 graphics card.
I own a system with an i5-4590 in a compact mini ITX case. Before, my GTX 1660 Super was limited by my CPU. Now I have a GTX 1070. I can't upgrade the motherboard because of location restrictions, making it hard and costly to buy something new. I’m considering the MSI H81I and was advised about i7-4790 or Xeon E3-1271. Which one should I choose?
I own a GTX 1070, an i7 6700K, and previously had a 7700K—all of them performed well with the 1070.
1271 above the 4790 price drop makes it more affordable. Are you referring to version 3? The 1271 is indeed from Sandy Bridge.
Sure thing. Go with the 1271 v3 – it’s a solid deal at that price. The 4790 doesn’t hold up well, and you’d be better off with a used Ryzen setup instead. Both CPUs are pretty much the same in terms of specs, though they share the same base and boost clocks. I think there’s a way to unlock desktop Haswell for all-core 4GHz, but I’m not sure if it’s the same process as with the Xeons. I’ll give it a try once I have some cash to spend.
