Find a budget motherboard compatible with the GTX1660.
Hey everyone, my aunt recently replaced her graphics card with a 1660. It’s clear she was worried about compatibility when I checked her PC and noticed her motherboard is from 2013. I suggested she upgrade the rest of the system, and now I’m looking for a good motherboard in the $150-300 range. She’ll also be updating other parts, so any compatible AMD or Intel boards should work.
A CPU recommendation would be helpful too, I didn't realize this section was meant for CPUs and motherboards.
She now possesses 2013 components, which isn't bad if she has the right ones.
She doesn’t seem to need a new motherboard unless it’s showing signs of trouble. After eight years, I’m not planning to upgrade unless it stops working. It’s better to keep what’s reliable rather than replace it prematurely. If you really want a new setup, a Ryzen 2600 with a Gigabyte B450M would be a solid choice. You might also want to add some new RAM, especially if your aunt uses older DDR3. I found a good 2*8GB bundle on PCPartPickers that offers great value. The motherboard and RAM prices are listed with shipping and taxes included. If you’re after even lower costs, someone else might have better ideas.
Looks good. I'll let her know and check her thoughts. I should have mentioned she edits HD photos and videos. She mostly works with video, which is usually 1080p at 30fps and rarely exceeds five minutes.
a) Then the reason to switch the system is because of the GPU, not just for personal preference.
b) The Ryzen 5 2600 is priced at 195, while the R5 1600AF is more expensive.
c) Your aunt likely has parts from 2013, but the only compatible one is the 1660; high-clocked CPUs from that year should work well with this card.
You're encouraged to search for 1600 AFs in Australia, though I'm unable to assist with that.
