I understand this has been discussed before, but the response often repeats the same points. What I’m seeking is the top software to safeguard my PC (I’m open to spending money). Before suggesting “common sense” or tools like Malwarebytes, I want a program that can automatically check my system for threats and keep me protected. The problem with Malwarebytes is that the free version lacks scheduled scans and doesn’t let you scan files by right-clicking. Also, when I see it recommended, it usually points to free antivirus options, which isn’t always helpful. Over the past few years I’ve tried McAfee LiveSafe, Norton 360, Avast, and AVG. Mostly McAfee had too many distractions, but I was actually quite satisfied. My main goals are: strong protection, minimal system interference, non-intrusive interface, and regular automatic scans. My mom would probably appreciate these features.

I don't have a preferred version, but I'm not familiar with any feedback about Bitdefender. Which version are you currently using?

Total Security 2014 is available, but you might want to consider 2015 instead.

The decision to opt for comprehensive protection was likely driven by the need to safeguard against evolving online threats.

Malwarebytes Premium is essential when you apply basic judgment (avoiding unnecessary downloads).

The problem lies in misunderstanding what common sense means. For someone unfamiliar with technology, advice like "use common sense" isn't effective. What would be the ideal security solution if it operated entirely on software without human input?

I haven't been using it recently but I used to, can't recall the version.
