Steam offers discounts, and I keep seeing Final Fantasy titles. I chose one to purchase but feel overwhelmed by the options. Which Final Fantasy title is best for beginners? Just remember, I’ve never played any of them before!

I strongly suggest playing FFVI. You can customize the Steam edition to suit your preferences (such as better character sprites instead of iOS ones), but I assure you it’s widely praised as one of the greatest RPGs ever, just like Chrono Trigger.

I won't reveal anything too much, but you're going to adore the soundtracks in FFVI. I've listened to nearly all of them (except 9 and 11), and I consistently view FFVI as the top of RPG background music. It's truly stunning.

I like them all, A LOT, and replay them very often. Once your finished giving the iconic classics (VI & VII) a try have a look at FFX, that was the first title on PS2 and is also very good. A similar game I played back on the PS1 was Legend of Dragoon. That game is simply amazing and I really like the attack combo system, not just selecting attack.

If you haven't already purchased it or if someone else is wondering the same thing...I also say get FFVI. The port has some pretty weird graphics but the game is still the same game, which is awesome. This is what I recommend to people (you don't have to play in any specific order): Final Fantasy VI Final Fantasy V Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy IX (unfortunately isn't on sale for some reason) Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy IV + Spinoffs Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy XIII And that's just from what Steam has. As a huge FFVI fan...I say you should check out IX. I think you might like it!

As a huge FF6 fan, you didn't miss anything there aside from Vivi, and even then I wouldn't worry about it. Buy a Vivi plush doll, it'd be cooler. If they've integrated in the square-online stuff completionists needed to do for the original release into the game(which means they'd need to give you the strategy guild as well if I remember right), then it's worth a 5 spot. OP it doesn't matter which one you start with, or if you play them all. Final fantasy is not a continuing saga, to be honest the only thing tying them together is an evolution of the battle system and some themes/names(which are more like easter eggs for fans). I'd recommend you start with considering where your limits are for graphics first. If 8 & 16bit isn't something you can be down with, then skip the earlier titles. The only time the order is important are FFX / FFX-2 and FFXIII / FFXIII-2 and so on. Ones I enjoyed were 6, 7, 8, 10(Blitz ball is tits), 12 and to a lesser degree 13.

It was really enjoyable. I didn’t win any games since I didn’t put in the effort to improve, but it was still entertaining, haha.
