I moved a game from a SanDisk external 1TB SSD to my Steam Deck. The folder size matches expectations, but when I explore the filesystem further, only empty directories appear. Since the deck is only a month old and I haven’t altered or opened it, why aren’t any files showing up? Also, the trash bin and other options don’t display anything.

It might be that the steam deck is concealing the files, assuming it is a crucial document.

Which game was played, how did you make the transfer, to which platform did it go, and do you have any screenshots of the file browser?
