Hello, I was planning to buy another NAS because my current one was nearly full. Then I spotted a size difference on my NAS server and became quite puzzled about what was happening. I’m running a Tettamaster F5-422 x4 4TB IronWolf in Raid 10 (1+0) = 8TB usable space, which is 8TB for personal storage with one 8TB drive. I also have an 8TB drive in JBOD used for my Steam library. I’ve attached a photo if it helps clarify things. I have a few questions. For example, on Windows, the size listed is 5TB but the disk space shows 6TB. What could be causing this? Also, I calculated my Steam library as shown in the image—total files amount to about 1.99TB on disk and 2.26TB total. On an 8TB drive, it should have around 6TB free, but it reports only 1.31TB free. What’s the source of this extra 5.74TB of data? Where is it located? And what is its purpose? Is this related to my RAID setup or the machine itself? Also, why does the total file size appear so large on the drive? I’m really confused but thankfully caught this issue before spending a lot of money on new hardware.
