File exists on two storage devices
I checked the Task Manager and saw Windows using the pagefile on both the C drive (NVMe SSD) and the D drive (secondary storage). It’s unusual but possible for Windows to allocate space there. Disabling it on the slower 7200rpm WD Ultrastar might affect performance, so consider whether it’s necessary.
I duplicated the Windows from a 1TB 970 Evo SSD to a 1TB 990 Pro SSD. I recall configuring the Recycle Bin to use Disk D at one time, yet I never actually installed Windows there.
System properties window, advanced options. Tap Settings... under performance. Return to Advanced and select Change... beneath Virtual Memory. You’ll notice your drives and virtual memory configurations. Just ensure D is unset for pagefile. If it’s already off, you can remove the existing file.
In Windows preferences you can choose to have page files spread across multiple drives...
I configured it as zero, then restarted Windows, and there have been no issues reported.
However, after checking some Reddit and forum discussions this morning, it seems the page file should be placed on your fastest storage device. Since my setup uses a Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSD, I wasn’t sure about having two page files, so I wasn’t certain if disabling the one on the hard drive was safe.
Ensure it exceeds the combined size of RAM and swap file. You don’t need to store it on the fastest disk, but it will affect boot speed—keep this in mind. I placed mine on a second SATA SSD to free up space on my faster NVME drive (which isn’t very large). The 16GB pagefile on the NVME was just for demonstration.
