Attempting to launch old games or apps on newer operating systems can be tricky. If the application has an icon on your desktop, right-click it. Navigate to properties (likely at the bottom) and select it. A new window will appear. Check compatibility in one of the top options. Review the dropdown menu and choose something like NT or XP—perhaps version 4.0. Finally, click OK and try running the app; you probably won’t need a restart.

At first I wasn't sure about the term "desktop." I went through most of the choices without rebooting the computer, but it still won't start.

There were patches available. It's unclear if G.O.G. included them. I attempted to run it on W7 but couldn't start it. I won't try it again. I'm not planning to restore my XP machine or download it once more. Return the game and get a $5 refund.

He recommended this tool -> http://dege.freeweb.hu/. I’m still figuring it out, but I think my GPU (GeForce 7900 GT/GTO) can handle DirectX 9.0c, though gdVoodoo 2 doesn’t support it. Maybe someone with more experience could help clarify this.
