Feeling warm inside!
I made myself a little x-mas present: CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 Motherboard: ASRock Z790 PG Riptide GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 4090 ROG STRIX OC PSU: ASUS ROG STRIX 1000G NVME: WD Black SN850X SSD - 2TB FANS: 6 x NF-A12x25 Case: Lian Li PC-O11D XL ROG It's all working just fine. There are however, two issue's. First is the noise when playing games. I did go for the most quiet fans possible, even so, system seems to spin things up and down often when putting some workload on it. Second issue is the heat, not inside the PC, but in my 12 m2 room. Temp goes to around 26 degrees celsius and this is during winter! The system itself seems to be cooled like it should, the GPU never goes above 65 and CPU also never passes 60 or so (depending on which of the 20 cores is measured ) This is after 4K gaming several hours, so I believe the cooling is ok. What's not OK, is me sweating like a horse because the PC is playing hot air heater. Any suggestions to get the PC cooled, without getting the ambient temp to go crazy? I'm worried that when summer comes, and we get 28-30 degrees celsius outside, then what! I don't have a swimmingpool like Linus
You can reduce heat by choosing power-efficient parts or lowering clock speeds and using lower voltage settings on your CPU and GPU. This may affect performance, but it won’t have to be significant. You can also move some heat away from your space—such as running water through a radiator outside or opening a window and turning on the air conditioner.
If you're going to adjust the settings, I really want POWAH! The AC isn't working. Letting the window open in the summer will only bring in more heat—I feel like I've made a big mistake!
Consider opening the window perhaps? The issue is the 14700K draws a lot of power (200W+), and the 4090 is even higher (400W+). That creates a lot of heat that needs to dissipate, which isn't possible in a small enclosed space. Higher ambient temperatures make everything hotter, causing fans to run faster. You can adjust fan curves so they don’t change speed too often, but you can’t really lower their speed much if the components get too hot.
Using the heat outside by directing it through a car radiator or similar device can be an alternative when AC or undervolting isn't available. Positioning the radiator in a shaded area helps preserve its effectiveness even on warm days. Its cooling efficiency will drop noticeably during high temperatures.
Your setup functions like a 600W heater. The cooling components are working to disperse the warmth. That energy needs a destination, which is the surrounding space. Once the system runs hard for several hours—like during intense gaming—it will significantly raise the room temperature. The only options are reducing the power output or improving air circulation by letting doors open, using fans, or installing AC.
No heating elements, warm floors, temperature set at 22°C. The floor fans rarely activate because I’m constantly moving around, and with just one laptop and this new device I’ve managed to boost the heat to 25°C (even for non-gaming tasks). Probably didn’t consider this setup when purchasing the new PC. I tried Asrock’s FAN Optimize feature, but I’m not a fan of it. Any recommendations for improved fan control apps would be appreciated. I’d prefer fans that run a bit faster rather than those that spin up and down unpredictably.
