I’ve noticed a strange humming or whining noise coming from my gaming PC. I’ve tried all the usual fixes—swapped power supplies, checked fans at 30%, unplugged cables, and adjusted settings. Nothing resolved it. The sound only appears during gameplay and disappears when I press escape to open the menu. It happens whether fans are spinning or locked, and it’s not present on my desktop. When playing Cyberpunk, the PC buzzes in-game but stops when I press escape to view the menu, then resumes immediately afterward. Any advice would be invaluable. Buzzing.m4a

It seems like a pleasant hum to you. Likely the issue is on the GPU, probably due to minor undervoltage or overclocking might improve it.

It’s almost entirely caused by coil whine, which is quite typical for modern high-end GPUs due to their power demands. On a desktop setup it usually isn’t noticeable because the GPU isn’t operating at full capacity. The same applies in some games when you disable VSync and let the frame rate climb into the 100s. At that point the noise reappears as the card draws more power for smoother performance. You can’t really change much to reduce it, though some cards naturally produce more whine than others. Using a premium battery backup or power supply can help ensure clean power, but it may alter the sound characteristics. Personally, I use headphones and try to keep FPS lower in games, which helps mask the issue. If this sound was previously absent and now appears suddenly, it could indicate a hardware problem that might not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty—you could contact them with details for assistance.
