Feeling somewhat let down with the wraith prism cooler.
I just finished my second build and I’m running a 3800x with an MSI meg ACE x570 board. Finding it on Newegg was a small miracle. Everything seems okay except for the CPU temperature—it runs a bit hotter than my i7 8700. I’m currently using the stock cooler and getting mid to high 40s at idle. During Halo 2 Anniversary I was in the mid 60s to mid 70s, Fortnite at 60fps brought it up to mid to high 60s, and at 144fps it reached mid to high 70s. It looks like my i7 8700 stayed cooler with the stock cooler from Intel. I’m not sure if these temps are normal for a Ryzen, but I thought AMD coolers should perform better. I had some installation issues, but nothing too serious. Probably a thermal paste problem if I’m getting into the 90s.
3800x measures 105 TDP, and the cooler matches that rating. I might switch to a different cooler, but the current temperatures look acceptable for the stock unit.
It features two additional cores and four more threads than your previous 8700. Likely similar or faster clock speeds, depending on your i7's performance boost. Those temperatures look acceptable—no major concerns. Ensure you have the newest chipset drivers and BIOS installed, and for Ryzen, consider using Ryzen Master or HWiNFO to keep an eye on temperatures.
temperatures seem fine, you cant compare coolers when theyre not on same cpu. also temperature isnt the only measurement to take for coolers, how loud is the cooler makes a difference too
It seems like you're expressing surprise at the performance. You were expecting a cooler temperature, but it's actually handling the heat well with the stock cooler.
