Hey everyone, here’s what I experienced when trying out the new ZEN 4. We’re aware that AMD didn’t release anything revolutionary with this lineup—though it barely matched or even exceeded the 5800X3D in some areas. After extensive research, Ryzen 3600 and 5800X users decided to give ZEN 4 a shot because prices dropped significantly. I purchased the 7950X for around 569 euros (about 500 euros in Europe). That was a great deal to miss out on. Once I found the right motherboard, I went with the Asrock B650E PG Ripley WiFi, spending 250 euros there. When it came to RAM, don’t get caught up in expensive kits; a basic 4800MHz CL40 32GB setup for 115 euros was sufficient. For gaming only, you’ll notice minimal impact—just a few percentage differences. The RAM speed on ZEN 4 isn’t crucial unless you’re focusing on compression tasks. Still, I managed to optimize the Crucial kit to run at 5400MHz CL34 at 1.3V, but the main gains were in read/write speeds, not gameplay.
The 7950X is a powerhouse CPU—far ahead of my previous model. AMD has made impressive strides overall, though perfection isn’t there yet. I encountered a few issues:
1. The AM4/AM5 compact coolers are not compatible with stock plastic mounts; you’ll need a proper ZEN 4 bracket.
2. Adding four RAM sticks didn’t help much—latency increased and stability dropped.
3. The 95°C temperature was a real concern. Using Deepcool AG620 BK ARGB helped, but even with good thermal paste, it struggled under stress tests like Cinebench R23.
I noticed the CPU would throttle during long rendering sessions, dropping from 39k to 30k points. The heatsink didn’t help much, possibly due to the CPU’s IHS design.
AMD seems to be experimenting with CPU unlocking and boosting based on cooling, but it’s not a perfect solution. I’m still tuning my setup, and there’s plenty more to improve. Stay tuned for updates!
It's understandable, but your argument is a bit unclear. Performance issues under heavy use mainly depend on expectations and how well you understand them. It’s built for bursts, not sustained loads, which is why it works that way. This aligns more with Intel’s long-term approach. I don’t see it as a flaw unless critics claim otherwise. The real issue arises when people assume it can handle higher loads without issues.
Heat management becomes tougher as the process area shrinks. Honestly, it’s better if the CPU reaches around 95°C and throttles, which is what warranty terms suggest. With PBO on Zen 3, they trade warranty for higher temperatures, making it hard to predict lifespan accurately.
