Hello everyone,

I’m planning to assemble a mid-range or budget VR setup that includes some 2D gameplay as well. Most of the time in VR will be spent in sim racing or driving. I’m coming from Rift S, with an RTX 3070, a Ryzen 7 1700X with 16GB RAM, and a prebuilt Dell 5675. The build performed quite well overall, but the CPU appears to be damaged—consistently near 100% usage during games and experiencing random crashes. There’s only one fan case, and I haven’t seen any high temperatures on either GPU or CPU. I wasn’t able to upgrade the motherboard’s BIOS, so a CPU upgrade isn’t an option.

I’m thinking about these components during Black Friday and would appreciate any advice or suggestions. Apart from cost, VR visual quality and performance are my main concerns. I’m open to overclocking, but I think a better GPU will be needed in about a year.

I’ll switch to the Meta Quest 3, install a 750W PSU, and add an RTX 3070 from my current rig. Thanks in advance for your support!

Consider checking for bios updates on your existing board. Upgrading from 1700x to 5700x3d could cost around 200, leaving you with some cash. This might enable you to sell your GPU and purchase a higher-end one.

I'm not confident about this motherboard since it lacks heatsinks on the VRMs. For a gaming setup, I'd recommend something more durable.

As discussed earlier, Cant update dell mobo bios means the CPU upgrade isn't possible. Otherwise, I might have picked a different route.

I understand. It would have helped to read more carefully. This is one positive aspect of custom builds, as it usually provides greater adaptability.
