Fat32 and Fat16 are file system formats used by Windows. Fat32 is older and supports larger files, while Fat16 is faster but has smaller limits. The main difference is how they store data on your drive. If you're setting up an AMD RAM disk, you'll want to use the correct format—check your system settings or use a tool to pick the right one. It’s best to follow the recommended settings for your hardware.

There are notable distinctions between FAT32 and FAT16. FAT32 offers more detailed allocation options (about 4 million units per space). It supports expanding the root directory, whereas FAT16 caps entries at 512. Benefits of FAT16 include compatibility with MS-DOS, Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and certain UNIX systems. Various solutions exist to fix issues and retrieve lost data. In cases of startup problems, an MS-DOS bootable floppy can be used. It performs well in terms of speed and storage for drives under 256 MB. Challenges with FAT16 involve its root directory limit to 512 entries and the impact of long file names on available space. FAT16 is restricted to 65,536 clusters, but practical limits reach around 65,524 due to reserved spaces. Each cluster has a fixed size relative to the drive. When both limits are hit, Windows 2000 caps drives at 4 GB. To keep MS-DOS compatibility, volumes should stay under 2 GB. The boot sector lacks backup features. FAT16 doesn’t support file security or compression.

No, FAT is still relevant and widely used in certain contexts today.

I believe you're able to create a disk in FAT32 format and access it using Windows Vista, 7, and 8.

You're encountering a choice between 32 or 16 GB for your AMD RAMdisk. Let me know if you need help deciding!

I am sure you are sarcastic so for the record use the 32 if you play on transferring huge files with an size bigger that 8gb(per file/folder) if the driver is small use fat 16.fat 32 is recommended for huge partitions when fat16 is more for flash drives with small storage size.also the fat16 is slower

Appreciating the effort, thank you. I'm working hard to understand as much as possible.
