Fast frame rates, yet the games feel sluggish.
My system specifications are:
Intel Core i5-7400 @ 3.5 GHz
Nvidia GeForce RX 480 with 4GB of VRAM – running at default speeds
MSI B150 GAMING M3 motherboard
8GB of DDR4 RAM at 2400MHz
Corsair 600W power supply
1TB Western Digital Blue hard drive
I’m experiencing a persistent problem with nearly every game I play. When my frame rate drops below 60 frames per second, it feels significantly lower, almost like a sluggish 20 fps – and this is incredibly frustrating. I haven’t observed any overheating or instability with overclocking, and I've diligently updated all drivers (including my operating system). League of Legends runs flawlessly at consistently high frame rates, but that’s not a useful comparison.
I've even attempted overclocking the graphics card, which improved frame rates somewhat, but my games still feel uneven and stuttery, even when using Vsync. Reducing the maximum frame rate made the problem worse. Furthermore, I tested games on a solid-state drive to rule out slow loading times from the hard drive, but this didn’t resolve the issue. Switching different HDMI and DisplayPort cables also had no effect.
Has anyone else encountered this specific issue, and if so, could you suggest any potential solutions?
Thank you.
Are you indicating there are no worries about overheating or inconsistent results?
What temperature readings are you observing? And have you adjusted the graphics card’s performance beyond its default settings?
If adjustments were made, please revert to the original configuration to assess performance.

You haven't indicated any worries about overheating or unstable operating conditions?
What temperatures are you experiencing? And have you increased the GPU’s clock speed?
If you've overclocked, please disable it to see if that resolves the issue.
I observe consistent temperatures while using games such as Witcher 3 and Watch Dogs 2—55°C for the processor and 65°C for the graphics card. Furthermore, I haven’t applied any overclocking to my GPU or any other component. I attempted an overclock on the card to determine if it was still occurring, and it did, but then I reverted everything back to its original speeds and settings.
