You have two choices for optimizing the game. One involves using the Nvidia control panel to set up half-vsync, triple buffer, and limiting FPS to 30 in Riva Tuner, while the other focuses on editing the ini file to enable MIP mapping and improving texture quality. I favor the first method because it lets me achieve a visually impressive result at 30 fps without worrying about multiplayer performance in Far Cry. The main issue is that the game won’t run smoothly for anyone unless they lower their texture and setting requirements, which usually only works with the ini edits. On a GTX 980 Ultra with a 4790k at 4.8ghz, the performance drops significantly when one core is maxed out, causing noticeable frame drops. This problem can be addressed by the two methods I mentioned. Watching the game isn’t terrible if you accept a smoother 30 FPS in single-player mode; most people aren’t skilled at achieving this, and a non-synced 30 FPS appears poor. In short, it’s still better than the console version on your PC. If you have an older CPU with lower specs, like a non-Sandy model and a 650 Ti, I’m unsure if it’s worth trying.
I purchased the game yesterday, but haven’t played it yet. I usually favor 1080p at 60 fps over lower settings, though that’s just my taste. I’m okay with less detailed textures. You mentioned MIP mapping—something I’m not very familiar with, so I’ll search for it on Google when I get back. Thanks for the tip!
Some users report improved performance after placing the game on an SSD. I just installed it today and will test it soon.
Yeah for 60? Here is the setting. Mip one is what matters. Framebuffer didn't seem to make a difference. Add to that frame buffer can only help if you have the VRAM. After I went back and compared it did nothing and that was on a 4GB GPU, where it should have made a difference. You can try it without this change, but when you stutter like crazy on a vehicle (four wheelers at full speed are the worst culprit) come back to this post and apply that change. You will lose detail on some textures with that change though. You could compare low textures to the change see, what one you like better.
It really worked for me! I struggled to understand why the developer didn't include all the options from the .xml file in the game settings. The constant small glitches really discouraged me, and that saved me a lot of money. Thanks!
