After all the updates with Ubisoft titles and their PC versions, I wanted to check FarCry 4's performance on a solid machine. Before buying, I needed to test it firsthand. Since no official demo exists, I resorted to downloading it illegally just to avoid another poor Ubisoft PC game. I’m aware of Ubisoft! Blame me! Honestly, the game didn’t run smoothly. There were shader glitches and other minor problems. But since it was a pre-release, maybe driver updates or patches would resolve these issues before release. Now that it’s available, here are the details.

Running at 4670k (4.4) with 280x. (fc4 - 1.03 Amd drivers 14.11.2Beta). Everything works on Ultra, SSAO, Godrays: Enhanced perma 60 fps+. Occasionally FPS drops to around 50, which isn't too bad.

Do you experience any shader problems? In my situation the shadows appeared entirely black, making it impossible to discern anything within them. After switching to HBAO+, the darkness persisted but wasn't total.

HBAO+ is a NVIDIA product that generally functions well for you. I can use it but experience significant drops in FPS—around 10% or more. GodRays (enhanced) is also from NVIDIA, which causes similar performance issues. Regarding shadows, there are no problems. Have you experimented with adjusting the color settings in-game? Try a different Godray setting or Amb OCL setting to check if the issue resolves.

I tested it for a brief period and managed to get it running, though the frame rate became inconsistent afterward. I hesitated to spend 40 euros just to give it a chance before considering updates or new drivers. Regarding your question, I don’t have personal ratings, but I can offer general feedback based on typical experiences.

You manage to perform well on a 280x display despite the GTX 970, but you're facing microstutter issues. It might be related to texture quality, resolution settings, or driver performance. Checking lower resolutions or adjusting settings could help.

Yes, some people experience blurry or out-of-focus shots during cutscenes or when tagging objects with the camera.

I played FC3 before, and most of the gameplay elements feel familiar rather than innovative. I’d rate it around 6 to 10. The visuals are engaging and the gameplay is enjoyable, but the storyline falls short. The mechanics are largely similar to FC3, which can make it feel repetitive. Microstutter might be due to various factors. Have you tried adjusting or disabling the HPET timer on BIOS or Windows? You might find some improvement by turning it on or off. Also, look into unparking your CPU cores if you want further tweaks.

It's mostly black to me, but I'll keep trying and adjust once I have accurate results

The problem occurred in the pirated file too; adjust the ambient occlusion and shadow settings.
