Hi everyone, I'm really new here. I've been playing on Steam for a while until this evening. A single false claim nearly ruined everything. Now I'm permanently banned, and the support person asked me to pay money that should have been sent right away. I tried but they said I had to pay more I couldn't afford, so I'm now banned forever. I've lost a lot of games and feel really sad. What should I do next?

You were tricked. Steam support will never request payment to remove your account.

Are you being asked to pay to remove restrictions? That sounds suspicious—it could be a scam or a company without ethics. Steam doesn’t support such requests. If you received this via email, verify the sender’s address carefully. It probably isn’t legitimate.

Could you share an image of this message? I’m just as wary as everyone else—it looks like a scam.

Steam won't let you through fake claims, it won’t request payments. You were tricked—take note of this. Never share login info with strangers, no matter what they say or promise. Return to the bank or where you made the purchase and void that transaction.

Steam support was once a completely separate site from the main platform. This means support would never reach you through email or in-client messages. If you're banned from Steam, you'd likely get an email notification preventing login to your client. Such methods are unreliable because emails can be faked, and malware might interfere with your Steam login or even spoof your client. Requesting payment to regain access isn't a safe approach—everyone could rejoin if they tried. In reality, most bans can be bypassed by creating a new account, which is obviously prohibited and may result in an instant ban. If payment were involved, details would probably already be available on Steam's official pages or online. This clearly indicates a scam; if you paid, immediately dispute the chargeback.

Have you processed a chargeback for an item you bought? This method is common for getting blocked, and (re)payment might realistically be provided as a solution.

If that's the situation, we need to verify if OP has any emails or support discussions related to it. It's unusual for a well-known company to share such information openly. Chargebacks already involve banks, so handling would include those parties as well. OP asserts they made the payment but felt it was insufficient. This seems misleading. If Valve had clear guidelines allowing re-payment for incorrect chargebacks, the amount would be settled based on the original or adjusted for costs. Such transparency is essential. Requesting further details appears to be insincere and could indicate a scam.

It turned out to be a scam, but I managed to reach Steam and everything was resolved.
