Hello everyone, here are some thoughts on this. I just upgraded my rig with an i5 760 and an r9 390, but while playing Fallout 4 I noticed very low frame rates. The numbers in the screenshot show rates around twenty in the low range, which is quite high for my preferences. When I view the sky or ground, it drops to about sixty frames per second. I’ve kept everything at its highest settings so far. I’ve adjusted a few parameters, but only reducing shadow distance seems to help. At medium settings I’m getting around forty fps. Is this typical? Could my CPU be the bottleneck, or is there another issue? I’m checking the Fallout 4 2016-01-20 file you mentioned.

It's clear that clearer visuals come from viewing the ground or sky. Fallout 4 doesn't look great in most settings, but boosting things like shadow distance, god rays, shadow details, resolution, and occlusion can help. Your RAM and CPU might also limit performance slightly. The game actually performs better with quicker RAM, particularly when using mods.

Have you updated your drivers? Are you using the newest game version? Lower your settings, and distance becomes the main factor. You can play ultra without needing an extremely high view range.

Everything looks fine on my system with the i5 4590, GTX970 and 8GB RAM. Checking the OSD might reveal some details near 100%.

The i5 is quite outdated and lacks much power nowadays. Fallout 4 depends a lot on a strong CPU, so upgrading would help. You'd also see improved performance in other titles. This is definitely a CPU limitation.

Your processor is handling 50-80% load while playing Fallout 4 at 1080p. All adjustments are at their limits, achieving around 60 fps, but sometimes it drops to 45-50 fps.

The i5-4590 differs significantly from the first-gen i5-760 in terms of performance.

Examine the GPU usage during gameplay. I strongly suspect the i5-760, especially when running in its default mode, might be contributing to the issue. The AMD drivers within that game could be exacerbating the problem. This represents a very challenging situation for FO4.

Opt for a device supporting 760 to 4GHz and relive your days once more.

Double the post and clarify the question. You need system data from RivaTuner to understand what’s happening.
