Fallout 4 Load Times
Fallout 4 Load Times
I'm experiencing slow load times while moving quickly between areas, especially when entering and exiting buildings. I only have one "Faster EXP" mod for a second run-through. I'm playing on Ultra settings at 720p. My system includes an I7-4790K with standard clock, 32GB DDR3 1866Mhz, R9 290X Lightning, a 1TB Seagate 7200RPM drive running the OS, and a 256GB Samsung 850 Evo. Would it help to free up space or install FO4 on my SSD? Or should I reduce graphics settings?
Absolutely
Not substantially different from the SSD in any meaningful way
Rebuild the mechanical hard drive. Suggested tools include O&O Defrag or free options like Piriform Defraggler.
When using an SSD, you don't need to uninstall; simply transfer the folder if desired.
If the game is hosted on Steam, set up a Steam library on your SSD and use the menus to relocate the game between libraries.
I use a high-performance accelerator plugin from Nexus

This plugin functions well for me, though the developer notes experiences might differ
My loading times remain consistent after upgrading from a 10,000 rpm HDD to a SATA SSD and now a 2tb 970 EVO. This extra speed helps maintain smooth load-ins while navigating the map.
I own a heavily modded game where data is frequently loaded into VRAM slowly. Once the VRAM fills up, loading completes quickly. However, saves become slower as the game progresses, especially with fewer NPCs and less content. It’s enough time to enjoy small breaks like making coffee or grabbing a snack, so it doesn’t seem significant.
