These games demand a lot from the CPU, no matter how many cards you use if it can't keep up. I usually see smooth 1080p at 60fps even with a 980 ti. I haven't tried the texture pack, and it seems the series becomes less engaging after each update beyond version three.

It's not about the performance but rather the quality of textures. What bothers me most is how new the game feels compared to titles from about ten years ago. I also checked the CPU usage and found plenty of room, so that wasn't a problem.

I completely support this perspective. I won’t make broad assumptions, but being encouraged by a friend to watch the game closely turned out to be quite let down.

BF1 really stands out. The frostbite engine adds a stunning touch to FPS titles like Battlefield. I hadn’t played a Battlefield game before and chose Bad Company 2 as my debut. It completely impressed me from a 2010 release in 2017. Great work from EA/dice!

Wouldn't a game released ten years ago consume fewer resources than one today? That would also have been built for a GPU that operates roughly half as fast as a modern one. Hence, every game from a decade past should perform adequately. Poorly optimized titles such as Assassins Creed Black Flag maintain 144fps on a 980 Ti on my system, yet they struggled to hit 30fps on a 780 on my setup. This title debuted in 2013. I anticipate that games from ten years ago could run smoothly at 8k now. In fact, Fallout 3 maintained around 40fps on my BFG 8800 GTX when it launched, frequently crashed after five minutes, and corrupted saves during transitions. It has never deteriorated significantly because it was never well optimized.

If you're upset about the game's appearance, consider the HD Texture pack. Bethesda supports mods—visit Nexus to find quality graphics upgrades. They likely wouldn't invest heavily in polished visuals due to limited profit potential.

It's surprising to notice how much graphical quality remains even with major mods. I was hoping a game released around late 2015 would feel better and run more smoothly, especially with some powerful cards. I've done a lot of modifications but still don’t get the same results I expected. It would be nice if more care went into the visual design so I wouldn’t have to make changes myself, which would use up more resources and hurt performance. I know not everyone has the same setup, so optimizing for different systems is important. Ultimately, it seems the engine is outdated and overused, plus other problems make the experience less engaging.

I really think the performance could be better. Would it be wise to buy the 970 if I already have a 970, and see how the older cards affect things?

I notice clearly and find it impressive. The games/engine handles a crossfire setup exceptionally well, which is really impressive. I'm grateful for that and it's fascinating how smoothly the performance remains.

The engine has consistently performed poorly. The most notable glitch in Fallout 3 involved creatures flying through the sky. Occasionally they would crash and harm you, and at other times animals near you would become distorted across the terrain.
