Perhaps age is the issue. Back then, fans (including me) waited outside for releases, often at midnight. Was that acceptable too? That’s definitely a risky move—guaranteed sales. We didn’t spend hours in line asking staff about reviews. It was wildly unrealistic.
Mostly outside the country, people opened it to claim ownership. What they could do was trade it in, which led to Gamefly. However, future sales depend on loyal customers. Basic business advice: companies like EA can make mistakes, but fans keep coming back. The smaller players need to deliver, and EA will fail whether you order ahead or not.
I've also returned previous games, although I typically framed it as the game being "broken."
