Fallout 3 might be old, but it can still be useful. When you reach vault 87, grab the Geck and head to the room where you're ambushed by two big Enclave members. They'll say something like "target is secure boss," and then nothing happens. Just wait for the two Enclave guys to arrive and assist you.

I think there is an unofficial patch mod for Fallout 3. Try them out. They might fix the bug.

Be extremely cautious. Most fixes for this problem are filled with viruses, even on Steam.

You're downloading unofficial modifications for Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Oblivion via NexusMods. So far, you haven't encountered any viruses. It seems the community there might be more reliable.

I encountered some problematic patches from the Steam Workshop promoted on the Fallout 3 forum. They appeared while searching for a solution to fix Fallout 3 on Windows 10. I didn’t install any, but many warnings about them circulate.

Nexus remains free, though ads are included as optional revenue. Payments became necessary after roughly three years, especially this summer, due to persistent poor video ads and the value of a modest ad-free supporter plan. Costs mainly consist of small monthly fees for ad removal or one-time upgrades that boost bandwidth from 1MBPS. Be mindful of the following cautions: Users have reported genuine risks or issues, and standard Steam warnings appear when links point to sites not on the approved list.
