I've been thinking about joining the fallout series, beginning with Fall Out World 4,
just wondering if it's worth it.
I know the game is highly regarded, but I also see a lot of negative feedback, which makes me unsure.
Also, it's currently on sale for $24.

It's a decent game, but the DLC shines compared to the main story. If you manage to get the GOTY version, be sure to do so. The older Fallouts still work well even with the outdated graphics—try the new Vegas!

I purchased it since I believe I'll like it, and it was also on sale, so thank you for your feedback—it was useful.

For $24 dollars, hell yes!
I played it when it first came out, and enjoyed it a lot! Great story, great open world.
I don't know where all the negativity comes from about this game. I think it was mostly from Fallout 3 fans that were upset some things changed between 3 and 4. I played 3 myself for a bit, and I definitely enjoyed 4 more, so not sure what people were talking about. People love to hate on things nowadays.
Play it, great game I think!

I believe Fallout 4 offered an excellent story and impressive dialogue choices, along with strong characters like Piper and Nick Valentine, along with great music and overall quality. Compared to other titles, it stands out in its blend of action and RPG elements. It has shifted more toward character progression rather than a traditional adventure style. Personally, I think if you evaluate it on its own strengths, it’s definitely a solid game. It’s hard to satisfy everyone.

I'll also include Fallout 3 in the mix. You should go through that first before moving on to Fallout 4 or even 76 since it's much more difficult. The setting and story are great, though.

The gameplay in 4 certainly offered a smoother experience. Yet, the characters, RPG aspects, and world-building were notably weaker compared to previous entries. I've played 4 (~300 hours) but it clearly underperforms in RPG/story elements and needs critique for that.

I suggest those interested in the series explore 3 and NV as well, and if you're comfortable with the gameplay style 1&2, you might find them enjoyable too. These titles are ideal for players seeking strong stories and lore.

If you complete Fallout 4 and liked it, I strongly suggest trying Fallout New Vegas and 3. I really enjoyed New Vegas more than 3, though that might differ from others. When you get them, be sure to install the community updates for an improved experience.

Do you have any specific community patches in mind? I've only done some modding on F4, but my experience with 3&NV has been mostly vanilla.
