Fails to start due to secure boot restrictions.
Hi, I'm attempting to install Windows 11 on my PC (R5 3600, 16GB RAM, GTX 1650 Super). I went through the BIOS settings and turned off Secure Boot, but it asked me to disable CMS. After that, it won't boot from the SSD, doesn't display any disks in the boot menu, and the boot options are missing altogether. My motherboard is an ASRock B550 Steel Legend with BIOS version 1.90—probably outdated. I'm unsure if my hardware is compatible, though the SSD is from Kingston with a 480GB capacity.
Your boot device likely relies on the MBR partition table. Using MBR means CSM is still needed for modern UEFI support. Turning off CSM will prevent the system from booting from that drive. You should reinstall the operating system via GPT/UEFI boot instead of MBR. Before starting the reinstall, verify in disk management that the drive is indeed MBR to avoid further issues.
Changing the drive format to GPT will erase the existing data, meaning a reinstall is necessary. While some tools can transform drives into GPT without wiping them, using this drive for booting from isn't recommended since MBR and GPT handle boot sectors differently.
