Hello everyone! I'm trying to figure out why my Ryzen 5 3600 isn't hitting its claimed boost clock of 4.2 GHz. After checking with Hardware Monitor, I see the CPU never reaches that speed even when running demanding games like Project Cars 2 or Modern Warfare. My graphics card, however, stays near full usage. I tried turning on Game Boost, but it caused major issues—my PC would crash, fail to boot, and even shut down completely. I ended up disabling it in BIOS. XMP is enabled there, but I'm unsure which Windows version I have since I haven't noticed any update warnings when shutting down. My BIOS is VC02v34, the latest version I have. The system runs on MSI B450 tomahawk with the Ryzen 5 3600, Corsair Vengeance 16 GB RAM, and several high-end GPUs. Any suggestions would be really helpful, thank you!

It might be due to GPU limitations. Keep in mind that running games doesn't always ensure your CPU is fully loaded, since games don't always challenge your CPU heavily. Consider using a CPU stress test to check if your CPU performs as expected.

I believe a 3600 max clock would oscillate between 4075-4125Mhz, and 4099 works well. Yes, Zen 2 only approached their claimed top boost clocks when PBO+AutoOC was active.
