Hey there, I heard your laptop hasn’t been used much lately, so you decided to dive into something new. Mint Cinnamon Edition sounded like a solid choice. It took me two days to figure out how to verify the ISO SHA on a Windows machine... but hey, it worked fine! I then watched a YouTube video with no sound, and it seemed like we now have two dummies—only keyboard sounds and no audio. I followed many threads and updates, but downgrading kernels made things more complicated. The pulse started, but it wasn’t what I expected. It felt like I was spending more time typing random strings than actually learning anything useful. There are so many commands to know, but I’m not sure where to start. If you want, just share the specific commands you’re trying to use and I’ll help you figure them out. Thanks ahead!

Why do you think ignoring the rule “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” works better on your PC compared to this situation?

You might feel more at ease with a fresh start. I suggest moving to xfce rather than cinnamon since it’s much easier to manage. Copy it onto a USB drive and launch it from a live ISO to test audio functionality.

Sure, I can help with that. It seems you're trying to adjust the buttons and their placement while keeping the overall system intact. You're currently downloading something and want confirmation on how it works. Let me know if you need further clarification!

The audio is functioning properly through liveUSB but fails after installation. Could you share your laptop's make and model? Also, let me know if you're using the laptop speakers or headphones with an audio jack or USB connection.

No audio output during live or installation. I assumed running the updater and checking drivers would help, but nothing happened. My Huawei D15 intel I3 10110u has 8 GB RAM and 512 GB NVMe, it functions on Windows 10, yet I'm trying to explore new topics.

It appears Huawai D series laptops rely on an audio codec (esXXXX) that isn't straightforwardly supported by Linux. The only active development effort comes from the sound open firmware project. Compatibility is inconsistent—installing "firmware-sof-signed" may work, but errors can occur. A possible solution is to connect a USB audio adapter or headset.

I attempt it, as I believe version 2.0 of Lubuntu 4.7 is already set up.

Additional research uncovered a solution on askubuntu. A script exists to correct speaker and headphone channel mixing issues.

Not a success yet, but we'll attempt it again next month. Thanks everyone!
