For some reason, my machine won’t start up at default configurations, or any that differ from the current ones... I’ve kept the CPU running at 4.5GHz with the standard voltage for a while now. On a few occasions it would freeze, showing BSODs, then load the Windows interface briefly before freezing again. It seems the crash happens just before the operating system fully loads. Why would raising the voltage on a stable setup trigger such an issue? It’s strange that resetting BIOS to default settings also causes the same problem. Any setting outside 4.5GHz with stock voltage doesn’t work either. What’s happening?!

CPUs tend to degrade over time, particularly when overclocked and overheating often occurs. Eventually, even a very reliable CPU can become inconsistent, though this might stem from a BIOS problem. Are you using the most recent BIOS update for your motherboard? If so, consider re-flashing it to potentially resolve the issue.

I might attempt to restart it once more—it’s definitely using the newest BIOS. The processor hasn’t been heavily overclocked, it was mostly run in stock mode and stayed reasonably cool throughout its lifespan, so I suspect this isn’t due to hardware wear.

I wouldn't flash that board. You chance bricking the bios which is already having issues. Start planning a new build is the best suggestion here.

Your motherboard supports two BIOS configurations, allowing you to experiment with alternatives instead of just using the default.

I'll attempt that. Note: The second BIOS isn't something I select to start with—it's a backup that activates only if the primary one fails. It seems it just flashes the main BIOS, so I might need to re-flash it using Gigabyte firmware just in case.

He tried various BIOS updates but got the same outcome. The CPU only starts when it's overclocked, suggesting the default voltage settings for regular clocks aren't right. Even when adjusting the Vcore to a known working value, it still doesn't boot properly into Windows. It seems like the issue is tied to overclocking, and the computer only runs stably after that. What's going on with this machine?

This method seems unique, hadn't considered swapping the BIOS. I've already done some soldering to swap out MOSFETs and similar components, so it should be manageable. But it might be a bit of a shot in the dark now—this platform is only six years old... It still works, though! LOL
