I’m unable to update my BIOS to the newest release. I own an Asus Strix x299 E-Gaming and downloaded the most recent flash from the official site. When I attempt to read the file or flash it, I get the error: "Selected file is not a proper BIOS..." My current BIOS version is from 2017/8/8, while the one I downloaded is from 2022.
Inside the folder you have two files: Bios Renamer and a .CAP file. You only copied the .CAP file onto the stick, but it seems the system still detects it as a BIOS file. The issue might be that the BIOS file isn't recognized properly during the update process.
The file name was updated at https://rog.asus.com/bt/motherboards/rog...desk_bios/. It's unclear if the tool also verifies checksums or modifies the file in any other way. Edited April 18, 2023 by Needfuldoer — corrected motherboard model.
The issue is downloading the incorrect BIOS for your motherboard. You have a X299-XE Gaming but are getting the BIOS for the X299 E gaming. Please try this alternative. Your file only mentions E-Gaming; see this link: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-st...desk_bios/
