Hi everyone. I really hope someone can help me out. After setting up my new rig to full functionality, I decided to update the BIOS on my MSI motherboard. It came with a BIOS version that was about ten months old. Once the update finished, Windows told me I couldn’t use my PIN because my security details had changed. It offered options to update, but every time I tried, it kept saying something went wrong and preventing the change. I attempted to use my old account password, but it kept telling me I was offline and stuck using the last password I had.

The situation got worse when the machine stayed online, and Microsoft was sending me emails to my phone during the PIN reset MFA process. It seemed to let me through, but I couldn’t log back in normally. After resetting Windows using the recovery tool and keeping my files intact, the problem persisted. I ended up wiping everything and trying again, but now I’m stuck with a local account instead of my online one. Whenever I attempt to log in, it just shows an error with no details.

This is really frustrating, especially since I just set up everything to regain access after a hard drive wipe. Anyone have any advice or solutions?

Have you attempted to access the account using a web browser? Does it function properly? That means there are no problems with the account itself.

It worked perfectly before, but now it’s functioning again after a restart. I had to delete my registered PC from the account to reset and try logging in once more as part of troubleshooting. It hasn’t been there for a few hours now, and it’s back, so I can use my account again. I’m planning to set up a backup account right away—really frustrating for me. I didn’t realize updating the BIOS would reset so many settings, even though I thought it would preserve everything.
