Hey there, I bought GTA IV + Missiong from Liberty City on Steam a few days back, but I’m still stuck. To save my progress I need to log in with my Live ID (I don’t know my Windows Live account id). If I pick "Create a new account" and enter my email, it takes me to the Xbox Live site and logs in using my profile—probably that’s what you’re doing. But when I try "Use existing account" and type my email/password, it says the username isn’t found or the password is wrong. (I’ve double-checked, really typed it right a thousand times.) I can log in through the browser, but not inside the game. I also learned that Games for Windows Live is no longer available; it’s just Xbox Live now. Does this change anything? I’d love to play my new game again… Thanks.

Remove all GFWL components and save the instructions to this link: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/Live/PC/DownloadClient This should resolve the problem.

You're asking about the terms used in games and software that refer to "GFWL stuff." It means features or content that are optional or not essential. Your GTA IV is a paid game on Steam, so it doesn't affect whether you encounter those terms. Just because you bought it from Steam doesn't change how these descriptions appear.

Same issue occurs with the client. Huh Screenshot link provided. If I log in via the official site, can I access it? Does this confirm I own a GFWL account or is it separate? Am I even registered for GFWL? EDIT2: Using Windows 7, not Windows 8. Need clarification on that.

I think it's the same. Have you attempted logging in via a game?

I used Microsoft Games For Windows - Live Redistributable and Microsoft Games For Windows - LIVE, then removed them. EDIT: Windows Live Essentials is also installed—should I remove it as well?

It's recommended to turn off two-step verification for your GFWL account if it's enabled. Otherwise, I can't suggest any alternative solutions.
