Hi, I’m facing a serious problem with my PC. After attempting a clean install of the Nvidia drivers, the GeForce Experience update didn’t work automatically. Only the uninstallation succeeded, but the new install failed. The Nvidia installer doesn’t provide any explanation for the failure. When trying to install manually via Device Manager, I receive the error “one of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time.” I can’t restore the system because I didn’t create a restore point in time before the issue started. I’ve checked that no Nvidia Services or programs are running, and I ran the SFC and System Health scan. I tried booting in safe mode and without any auto-start applications or services. I confirmed that both the trusted installer and Windows installer services are set to manual start, and even tried enabling auto-start for the Windows installer service. The same error keeps appearing. Anyone know what might be causing this?
Last thought: Maybe turning off automatic driver updates in Windows could help, just to rule out a single problematic driver repeatedly blocking installations. I also considered uninstalling any unfinished or visible NVidia drivers from Device Manager and restarting to try again. I’m really worried about losing my display driver entirely—uncertain if this is even possible, and what the consequences might be (like a constant black screen and complete inability to use Windows).
Get the newest driver from nvidia.com/driver without installing it. Use DDU at the provided link to fully remove any existing driver in safe mode. Restart your PC while internet is off and apply the driver you downloaded.
Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I noticed the recurring startup sound when connecting a new device, possibly due to an ongoing driver installation. Edit: It didn't resolve the issue, showing the same outcome as before, though I'm not certain if the progress bar advanced this time before the error appeared. I also used another tool previously, but now the device list lists 'system' instead of the expected GPU name. It displayed the GPU name during installation attempts but then claimed it couldn't update because the installer wasn't available. Since using the tool, it no longer finds compatible drivers, even though I suspect the problem might lie with my PC rather than NVIDIA itself. Could be a compatibility or driver availability issue?
The tool you're referring to might be called something else depending on your system. It doesn't appear to have a widely recognized abbreviation for "DeviceInstallDisabled" in the registry. You may need to check the exact registry key name or consult your environment's documentation.
Some PC's seem to have the same stuff in different locations, no clue why and also no clue about the registry in general, since I barely use it. You could maybe google different locations for it. Theres also another key for the windows installer service which can set it so 'busy', I unfortunately forgot its name, so you'd have to google that, too. Lastly, if it's NVidia specific you could try their instructions, they're liked in the installers 'installation failed' message and generally, they recommend removing all old drivers. If you do that and still can't install new driver, you'll end up without any driver and can't play any game anymore like me.
