Facing Issues? Windows prompts for activation after reinstalling on Windows 10.
I just performed a clean reinstall of Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool. Everything proceeded smoothly until I reached the desktop and was prompted for activation in the bottom right corner. It seems I chose Windows 10 Pro instead of Home during the setup, which might prevent the system from reusing the Home key from before the clean install. I considered reverting to Windows 7 and then doing a fresh installation for Windows 10 Home as a possible fix. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks ahead!
You qualify for Windows 10 Pro if you're using Windows 7 Pro or higher or Windows 8.1 Pro. Otherwise, you need to install Windows 10 Home and activate it properly.
You previously used Windows 7 Home Premium before switching to Windows 10. After upgrading, you can use the Media Creation Tool to install Windows 10 Home without needing activation.
Well, you definitely can't perform a fresh setup of 10 unless you had already upgraded it first... which seems unlikely based on what you said.
I can simply set up Windows 10 Home using the media creation utility and avoid activation. (This machine is used secondhand, so I don’t have an activation code; would it be possible to activate Windows 7 for Windows 10?)
Fortunately, I believe this, thank you for your assistance. I'll let you know if it helps others facing the same issue.
