Facing issues where your PC fails to detect the GPU and displays the Red VGA Error Light.
Hey, I’ve noticed some issues with my computer recently. About a week back it was functioning perfectly. When I powered it off and went to sleep, the next morning it didn’t show any output on the screen. I examined the internal components and found that the graphics card’s fans were spinning but there was no signal detected. On the motherboard, a single bright red light labeled “VGA” was illuminated. I looked up the meaning of this error and tried various fixes—restarting the PC, re-seating the GPU, switching cables, disconnecting power sources, waiting overnight, even using SLI mode. Still, the VGA light stayed on. Eventually, I reached out to Gigabyte support, who suspected a faulty graphics card or motherboard. They didn’t have another board to test, so I decided to buy a replacement. I got an ASUS GTX 1070 ROG STRIX and connected it. The power came in, but the screen remained dark. I checked the motherboard again and still saw the same error. I experimented with different RAM sticks, disconnected peripherals, tried SLI, and even ran into a loop of CPU → DRAM → VGA → CPU. Now I’m convinced the problem lies with the motherboard itself. It’s been refurbished, but everything else seems fine—posting, RAM, fans, etc. There’s no visible damage. My main concern is the motherboard. Should I go ahead and order a new one? Thanks for your time and support.
the evga 750 gq might still be functional after several years, though its age could affect performance. it's better to test a fresh board rather than risking further wear.
It seems your device is just a couple of years old, and you're considering upgrading if needed. Appreciate the feedback!
Hi, I purchased an x570-plus Tuf Gaming motherboard from Best Buy today and connected everything. I only connected what was needed, yet I still encountered the VGA error. I tested both cards, and they appear to be powered on since my monitor lights up when I power on the PC, suggesting DisplayPort is working. My guess is the CPU might be the issue. I plan to bring it to Geek Squad this weekend for a check.
