I understand the setup isn’t perfect, but I’m working with what’s available. I’m using a Qnap TS31-P 2 bay NAS running whatever Qnap software is installed. I’m trying to link it to a Dell Optiplex 3040m on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. I’ve added two drives to the NAS, set up a RAID 1 pool, and created a shared folder with login details via the Qnap browser interface. I connected the NAS to the Optiplex using a CAT-5 cable and configured it as a network named “QNAP” with link-local IPv4 selected and IPv6 disabled in Ubuntu. The MAC address appears on this network, but when checking “Other Locations” in Ubuntu, nothing shows up for NFS or shared storage. I also tried mapping the drive through Qnap’s software, but it didn’t work. The issue seems to be that while the NAS appears in QNAP and Qfinder Pro, it doesn’t show up as a networked drive in my Ubuntu environment. The Optiplex has a Wi-Fi connection, yet the only active link is the CAT-5 cable to the Optiplex.

I checked the provided link and tried using smbclient -L to show active shares, but it didn’t work. It only displays share names like print$ and IPC$, which are noted as printer drivers and IPC Service (Optiplex). The only useful info I had was that when I opened the server GUI in a browser, the up address was 169.254.X.XXX:8080. In Ubuntu settings, the local network IP for the QNAP is 196.254.XXX.XXX.

For optimal performance, connect your device to the Router and assign it a dedicated IP address visible in the QNAP interface. Alternatively, locate it using its IP address or NAS name such as \\192.168.x.x or \\NAS Name.
