Yesterday, Windows got the "Creator's Update" for some reason. I didn't give it much thought, but I was excited about a few features. It installed, and I played a bit of KSP before turning it off. When I tried to shut it down, I saw an option to "Update and Shut Down." That seemed odd since I just updated but still clicked it. Now today: my PC starts in 5 minutes. I reached the login screen smoothly. After logging in, the screen went dark and a "Personalized Settings" box appeared. This was unusual compared to my old laptop. When I opened the desktop, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL took 45 seconds to open Task Manager. The disk usage was at 100%. I assumed it was malware and checked the control panel for a scan. Windows Defender wasn't there, as if it had been removed. What's happening?

The laptop is slow to start up, and I haven’t received the latest updates yet. The Ethernet cable is needed because the Wi-Fi isn’t working properly. It seems the issue only appears after a short wait of about five minutes.

It appears your hardware isn’t fully compatible with the recent Windows updates or the higher system requirements. This is why many users switch to Linux. Updates that damage your computer or cause program issues aren’t forced on you when you’re on Linux. You might find a way to revert to an older Windows version (though I don’t know the exact steps). Roll it back by uninstalling the latest updates and check if your device functions better.

The additional memory might not be the issue; it could be something else affecting performance.

Click the computer's right-click menu and look at the amount of RAM it shows. It’s possible the RAM modules weren’t installed properly.

Also verify the storage; if it's full, it could be causing the computer to slow down.
