Face challenges with GPU or boot problems after using DisplayPort and installing a new fan.
Hello everyone, I need some guidance regarding a problem that started after switching to DisplayPort on my graphics card and installing the Arctic P12 Silent fan. Everything worked fine with HDMI before. Here are my system details:
- Motherboard: Z87K
- CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K
- RAM: 16GB
- Power Supply: Cooler Master Thunder 600W
- Graphics Card: RX580 8GB 2048SP
Description of the issue:
The problem appeared right after changing from HDMI to DisplayPort on my graphics card, using a DisplayPort adapter connected to my TV, and installing the fan. The sequence was:
1. The PC briefly powered on, showed a signal for a few seconds, then shut down.
2. Restarting the computer took half a second without booting.
Steps I've tried:
- Removed and reinstalled CMOS battery.
- Replaced RAM.
- Connected GPU to another PCIe x16 slot.
- Verified all connections and performed a power cycle.
- System only works when the GPU is removed.
- Firmware updated to latest version.
- Issue continued even after removing the fan.
- Pressed power button with GPU connected; PC booted in half a second only on the first reconnect attempt.
- No response in BIOS when using discrete GPU.
- Fan spins briefly during start-ups.
- No visible damage or smoke on GPU.
Additional notes:
This was my first time using DisplayPort, previously HDMI worked perfectly. The Arctic P12 Silent fan seems fine. I'm worried about the GPU's condition and the root cause of this problem, especially after these changes. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Use a GPU on a different machine or send it to a repair shop for testing. If it doesn't work elsewhere, it's likely faulty. https://www.newegg.com/peladn-rx-580/p/27N-008H-00024
