I recently upgraded my CPU, motherboard, case, and RAM. My goal was to let a friend who’s just starting in PC gaming use my old components so I finished setting up my new rig and then his as well. I kept the same case, CPU, cooler, and RAM—everything that had been installed before two days ago. I installed my old 980 GPU, Corsair RMX650, and his SSD to test the system. I encountered a solid white CPU LED stuck on, while the RGB fans spun but the PC wouldn’t power down. The shutdown stayed locked until I pressed the power button. I’m certain none of these items are broken; I’d just played Forza 5 on them two days prior. I’ve checked nearly everything I could find and still can’t pinpoint the problem. Possible fixes I tried: re-seated CPU (3/4 times), reapplied thermal paste, switched AIO power to CPU fan header, inspected CPU and motherboard for bent pins, replaced all RAM (5/6 times), updated BIOS on one RAM stick via flash drive, changed fans from RMX650 to standard, booted without SSD, tried without graphics card, used all PCI slots, swapped power supply to RMX850, cleared CMOS with battery out for 5 minutes, jumped JBAT1 on the motherboard, rebuilt the whole system, tested various SATA ports. I’ve reviewed almost everything I could think of or read, but I’m stuck. I understand all parts functioned properly two days ago, even when testing the GPU in my new setup. Here are the specs: i7-7700K CPU, MSI Z270 Tomahawk Artic edition Mobo 64GB 3000MHz DDR4 Trident Z RAM, GeForce GTX 980 (reference card), Deepcool AIO Samsung 970 EVO SSD, Corsair 220t RGB Airflow, Corsair RMX850 PSU.
