Extremely high 7800x3D idle times (85+c)
Hello, your question seems a bit puzzling. Your CPU is currently at 85°C even when idle, with only a few background apps like Discord and Spotify running. You're using a PBO negative curve offset under -volt and have set a custom max temperature of 85°C. This could be unusual. As for the cooler, applying the pre-applied paste on the pump block didn't seem to help, despite others saying it shouldn't cause this issue. Could you clarify if there were any changes in your cooling setup or software settings recently?
It can't be the plastic because it was a pre-applied thermal paste.
You're asking about a problem with increased pressure during installation. To fix it, check the connections and ensure they're tight. If the pressure persists, inspect for leaks or improper alignment.
Ensure the screws are snug and the unit stays fixed. If everything is secured correctly, check for even thermal paste coverage. For AM5 chips, they should sit more centrally rather than off-center. In a follow-up test, add a heatsink to the CPU and run the AIO to verify the pump operation, though this may need an additional heatsink.
I repositioned the pump and can confidently confirm it’s functioning properly by checking the tube and pump block. It’s securely fastened, and I also performed a CMOS reset. In BIOS it runs around 45-50°C idle (which seems typical for a 32°C room temperature), but in Windows it jumps to 83-87°C and remains stable.
Many folks misinterpret their temperatures, meaning "idle" doesn't always mean nothing. The real issue is whether it's consistently 85°C rather than just sporadically. This is why screenshots often fall short of capturing the truth—until then I'll stick to the normal operating range! ; )
Hi there - thank you for your patience and support. I resolved the problem myself, thanks to the MSI Center software that triggered my MOBO to install automatically during a new Windows setup. I noticed my IDLE temperatures were about 46°C on a Lubuntu LiveUSB, so I reinstalled Windows 11 from scratch. The issue disappeared completely, just like it did with the LiveUSB. I’m not sure what MSI Center did, but I won’t revisit that tool again. Appreciate your help! - cookernetes.
