Extremely elevated idle CPU usage on a Ryzen 5 3600 processor
Consider replacing the CPU cooler and swapping out the existing thermal paste with a new one if available. Handle the process with extra care, especially when removing the cooler. The AM4 socket and certain CPUs can cause the paste to stick tightly, pulling the CPU out forcefully. It’s best to take the cooler down after shutting the system and remove it using a twisting motion rather than pulling straight up.
When the surfaces are in direct contact, a metal-to-metal touch between the heat spreader and cooler plate without any paste would struggle to maintain performance even at 90°C. This outcome has been consistently confirmed. Under full load conditions, it is likely to reach that temperature as well.
Hello again. I just installed Ryzen Master and noticed temperatures around 50-80°C without games running. The difference between Core Temp and Ryzen Master is roughly 10 degrees. I've attached a screenshot, but it doesn't change anything for me. If you have tips on adjusting power settings or fixing issues with power draw, I'd really appreciate it. Should I lower the CPU power? Thanks.
I used Google Chrome, Ryzen Master, and possibly another program. The CPU was only lightly used, around 2% utilization.
The presentation is significantly larger than expected. It should be about 30% at idle, currently it's around 60%. The TDC and EDC readings are also unusually high. It seems the actual idle power should be closer to double what it is now. The elevated power consumption likely causes the increased temperatures. Someone with experience might be able to identify the issue, which would be helpful. I'm testing the 3600X with the same motherboard and will review some details before responding.
It might be connected. Which power plan are you running? Have you adjusted any CPU voltages in the BIOS?
I've already shared this in another discussion, but I think I've got the issue clearer now. I upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 3 2200G to a Ryzen 5 3600. After installation, I've been seeing extremely high idle temps—80 to 100 degrees. I've applied thermal paste and am pretty sure the fans are working correctly, all case fans too. Someone suggested using Ryzen Master to check things out. I've attached a screenshot of my idle CPU. My 'PPT' is significantly higher than expected, and both TDC and EDC readings are off the charts. Anyone have a clue if this is related to power issues? Thanks ahead of time.
