Hello everyone,
I’m facing a problem with my PC’s startup.
It functioned perfectly for more than a year until recently.
Now, when I try to boot, the BIOS displays the Gigabyte screen but remains there for about three minutes before Windows loads and the spinning circle appears.
I’ve identified the faulty component, but I’m unsure how to resolve it.
The issue seems linked to an SSD connected via SATA port 4.
In BIOS it doesn’t recognize the drive, and even when unplugged everything works normally.
However, using a SATA-to-USB cable or a USB-to-SATA adapter makes the SSD operate correctly.
I also switched cables and tried connecting it to an HDD, which worked fine.
It’s an 512GB drive with 60GB available.
Any suggestions on why this is happening?

Specs:
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel i9 9900k
RAM: 128GB Corsair Vengeance RT 3600MHz
Storage: Gigabyte Z390 Designare
GPU: RTX2060S
Connectors: SATA: Boot Drive Samsung 870 1TB (90GB free), M2: Samsung 970 1TB (150GB free), Crucial 1TB SSD (40GB free), Seagate 2TB HDD (140GB free), WD Blue 1TB HDD (100GB free)
Ports: SATA slots 1-5 are occupied, slot 0 is reserved for the M2 connection.

Update your post with complete PC hardware details and operating system information.
Assess how much of the 512 GB drive is utilized.
List additional installed drives, including make, model, capacity, current usage, and connection types.
In the BIOS settings, look for a "verbose" option to see detailed startup activity during boot.
This feature can increase boot time and may be disabled by default.
If present, it might appear under a different name but still provides insight into system behavior.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I updated the post with my specs.
I couldn’t locate a bios log option, but I discovered something else.
Removing the intenso drive and connecting its port or cable to another drive resolved the problem (the port shouldn’t be the cause).
Disconnecting the secondary drive and using its free port to connect the intenso also worked.
However, when both drives are switched on together, the issue reappears (it switches with ports).
My thought is that the system is handling too much sata load, but it’s strange the intenso fails—this isn’t related to the port.
Also, I haven’t experienced this problem before, and the system has always run smoothly for years.

This motherboard?
https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...02...d8a38838df
(Confirm you have the correct manual.)
Check Reference Page 29 for supported SATA connections.
Also, open Disk Management and expand the window to view everything.
Capture a screenshot of the window and share it here via imgur (www.imgur.com).
You might need several similar screenshots showing the presence or absence of drives according to your setup.

Hey, thanks again for the fast reply.
Yes its the right board, I have also read though the manual and made sure to use the proper Sata config, I use the m2 port that blocks the sata 0 port, the drive is pcie tho.
The second config blocks sata 4-5 which was Bad because I need a lot of drives.
The config worked perfectly before, so I can’t really tell what happend.
I’ll send screenshots next.

The drive appears to keep triggering the problem consistently. I changed the ports multiple times, but it only fails when the drive is plugged in. The BIOS seems stuck while trying to scan the SSD.

I could have encountered a problem with the drive. I noticed it still retains some Windows partitions. Checking the storage window reveals an Efi partition remains. Perhaps the BIOS attempts to locate a Windows installation there and encounters an issue. I’ll back up the data and perform a clean wipe. I’ll keep you updated later. Thanks for the assistance so far!

I managed to resolve the issue! Your assistance was really useful, I hadn't considered it before. For those facing similar problems, I recommend checking out disk management.
My SSD contained remnants of a Windows installation, and I had previously used it in another build without formatting it properly. The best approach would have been to use a USB-to-SATA adapter, connect it, and run the command prompt commands: cmd -> disk part -> list disk -> select disk (your drive number) -> list disk -> verify selection -> clean.
After that, I was able to reconnect it and format it with NTFS. Now it appears correctly and my boot times are noticeably faster than before!
Thanks again
