I attempted a CMOS reset, but it didn’t make any difference. I also don’t have another setup that works with M.2.

Typically you need to obtain Intel storage drivers for Intel cards and AMD versions for AMD. These can be located on the mainboard's support page. Save them and place them in a folder on the installation USB drive. During Windows disk selection, choose to load drivers and locate the storage driver folder, then click OK. Your disk should appear; verify everything is correct. In BIOS you may also need to configure settings. For SSDs or NVMe, ensure the PCIe profile is selected. Some boards include AHCI or RAID options. Network cards often require installing chipset drivers first, followed by NIC drivers, which are also available on the mainboard's support page. Download these and keep them on the USB for convenient access.

If the drivers won't install, it indicates incompatibility.

It's a WD Black m.2 with an Intel adapter. The drivers from the website claim incompatibility, but I installed them manually and still faced problems. I attempted to run the software as administrator and changed the compatibility settings, but it didn't resolve the issue.

Aorus Z690 Ultra had identical results on a ROG Strix, which I returned via RMA after ASUS claimed the Mobo was faulty.

What's happening isn't clear to me. Can you give more details?

It doesn't allow me to start a SATA drive even though it appears in the BIOS. This is unusual and hasn't happened before.
