I'm facing the same issue. A M.2 to Thunderbolt setup would be possible, but it's not something that comes up often.

It will be handled via a switch. I own two NAS devices—one inside the home and another in the garage. I require 10GB to enhance the replication speed between them. The 10GBe capacity on my PC is just an extra perk.
